Rumor Has it That a KOTOR Reboot May be on the Horizon

Word on the street is that a Knights of the Old Republic reboot may be in development.

These rumors come courtesy of Liam Robertson’s podcast on his Patreon page. According to Robertson, BioWare Austin is currently working on a Knights of the Old Republic game that originally started off as a remake but has since evolved into a reboot. This comes shortly after Drew Karpyshyn, the top writer for the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, confirmed his involvement in a yet unannounced game. This isn’t the first time these rumors have popped up either.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of those games that falls into that top tier of games ever made. It was one of the few games set in the Star Wars universe that was actually any good; including arguably the greatest twist I’ve ever experienced in gaming. Fans have been dying for anything new in the Old Republic for quite some time now; whether it’s a third game in the series, a remaster or literally anything else. Knights of the Old Republic had some great characters and storylines that became fan favorites in the Star Wars universe and we’re all just playing the waiting game until that era can be recanonized.

When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, everything in the Knights of the Old Republic series was chopped off with the rest of Expanded Universe and banished to Legends (excluding the MMO). Now, the Old Republic era stands as a completely clean slate for new stories to be told. This is an opportunity where you can really kill two birds with one stone here. Not only do we get a modern Knights of the Old Republic game but characters like Revan and the overall story of Knights of the Old Republic can come back into canon.

This is still nothing more than a rumor. There’s no telling whether this’ll actually happen or not but it’s fun to speculate about. Star Wars is looking at a really bright future in gaming right now and it’d be pretty nuts if a Knights of the Old Republic reboot was right in the center of it.
